Simple 5-Minute Iced Coffee Recipe

During lockdown the internet was flooded with recipes for the perfect "Dalgona" coffee, which was great when you had all day to make it and if you wanted a diabetes inducing dose of sugar with it!
I now use a very simple 5-minute iced coffee recipe, which takes a fraction of the time and only contains the naturally occurring sugars already found in milk. Milk substitutes can also be used. I've heard Oat Milk can be a really good alternative.

I have seen extortionately priced machines that make "cold brew" coffee and recipes for making and storing brewed coffee in the fridge but, in reality, the proportion of hot espresso relative to the volume of cold milk and ice is so small that I personally don't see a need to cool it at all. I would much prefer to make my espresso the quick and easy way and drink it while it's fresh!
Hand whipping the milk takes forever and there are now some quite cheap but decent handheld milk frothers on the market. The battery powered ones do last a surprisingly long time but there are also now rechargeable USB versions, like this one, which was under £13 at the time of writing.
Alternatively, if you have an old cafetiere in the cupboard, you may be surprised to learn that it can double up quite nicely as a non-electric milk frother, like this purpose-built model, available for under £20 at the time of writing and it only takes a few pumps to froth the milk to the required level.

Simple 5-Minute Iced Coffee Recipe
Ingredients
1 double shot of Espresso (40-60 ml according to taste)
250 ml full fat or semi-skimmed milk (skimmed can also be used but it doesn't froth as well)
4-6 ice cubes
Directions
Make a double shot of espresso using your usual method. (see my review of the De'Longhi Dinamica Bean-to-Cup Coffee Machine linked to below)
Pour the milk into a glass or jug and froth it using your preferred method.
Place the ice cubes in a glass and add the milk, or add the ice cubes to your frothed milk.
Pour the Espresso into the milk and watch it blend (my favourite part of the experience!).
Give it a stir to ensure it is well mixed and sip it through a straw.
Tip
Drink it as soon as possible before the ice melts and/or the froth 'deflates'!
